Loi Krathong (ลอยกระทง), sometimes spelled Loy Kratong or Loi Kratong, is a colorful festival held every year on the full moon of the twelfth month in the Thai Lunar calendar.
Last year, I had the opportunity to attend the largest Loi Krathong festival in Northern Thailand.
The Yee Peng Lantern Ceremony was held at Mae Jo University just outside of Chiang Mai. At dusk, just when the ceremony was beginning I managed to catch some video of the monks procession with my iPhone after I came out of the bathroom!
The entire event was amazing and watching over 10’000 giant sky lanterns floating into the sky at once was a surreal experience I will never forget.
I would have gotten better video footage, but I was involved in lighting my own lanterns at the same time while trying to take pics.
I am thankful though that I was able to capture what I did. I hope you enjoy the video.
