It’s you, your skateboard and the world. So go out and make it your own. Now shut this shit off and go skate!

Skateboarding in my 50’s Day 4
I couldn’t wait any longer, I think it had only been a few days since I heard about this Skatepark in Hialeah and I decided I’d go check it out one evening after work.
I later found it was at Bucky Dent Park next to an old waterpark. I don’t think it’s technically called Bucky Dent Skatepark but let’s just go with that.
I’d never seen anything like this concrete bowl either. Just like the bowl at Lot 11 I was super excited but terrified at the same time.
Like I’ve probably mentioned, I only skated wooden half pipes starting at the age of 15 and only sporadically for a few years into my mid-twenties.
I had no idea what it meant to really carve. I thought I did, but this was the beginning of learning and guess what?
I am still learning how to carve this concrete bowl nearly three years later!
Once again, I just threw myself into another monstrous and abnormally shaped concrete bowl.
Who designed these bowls?
Anyways, overtime, Bucky Dent Skatepark in Hialeah changed how I skate.
This massive concrete bowl, has given me quite a few hard lessons on focusing and breathing. If I am lacking any sense of presence I am greeted with the harsh reality of the hard concrete flat bottom.
I was making some great progress in early 2024, but after a few hard falls, it’s been difficult to get back into it with shoulder and knee injuries.
Yes, I’m no longer pushing 50-50’s the way I’d like to but I’m still out here and enjoying those sunny winter days in South Florida and talking shit and cutting up with my comrades out here from the young to much more refined bunch.(older)
I need it just as much as I need a yoga class, meditation, or a day at the beach.
Skateboarding in my fifties keeps me imagining, and keeps me creating and surprising myself with what’s possible at my age.
If you’re wondering if I’m still doing this every Saturday, leave me a comment below!
Maybe I’ll see you there!
