Skateboarding In My Fifties Day 3: Rediscovering the Thrill at South Florida Skate Parks

Skateboarding In My Fifties Day 3

This was Day 3 of my return to skateboarding in 2022.

In the last few years I had made some efforts to start surfing again. Unfortunately, the surf in S. Florida doesn’t really cooperate very often.

However, I was beginning to get a little of my agility back after surfing on my wife’s WaveStorm a Soft Top Longboard for Beginners.

Which then led me to bringing out my old skateboard, which I rode around the parking garage of my apartment a few times. Then I decided to switch my trucks to try surf skating.

First I used these Waterborne Surf Skate Trucks and attached them to my Dogtown Deck that was already 10 years old or more, but I hadn’t used it since my last injury.

It took a few months before I was able to find a Carver Triton Surf Skate it was during the pandemic and they were very hard to come by.

After a few weeks of riding my SurfSkates on the flat ground, down the Hollywood Boardwalk and Dania Beach, I was ready to seek out some transitions.

First I went to the pump track in Hialeah for a few laps. I was still trying to figure it out, not realizing I had to loosen my trucks even more.

Afterwards, I headed over to Lot 11 where I got a little wake-up call on why I need to wear protection.

Luckily, for me the Lot 11 Skate Park in Miami had been open about 2 years already and I was eager to see if I could still skate something more challenging.

It had been over 10 years since the last time I skated and even before then I had rarely had a chance to skate anything resembling a ramp or a bowl!

The above is a video from my 3rd day out at the park.

Lot 11 Skatepark is located in Downtown Miami under I-95:

Word of Mouth: Hey! Did you know there’s a skatepark in Hialeah?

Yeah so on my third day back out learning to skate again I heard from two older guys that some old retired skaters meet up every Saturday at this park called Bucky Dent Park in Hialeah and I am welcome to joining them.

Just kidding about the old retired skaters part….but yes, the park is real!
